“Working with clay is a tactile experience. There’s something incredibly humbling about forming earth into art.”

Maxine Macdonald

Passionate
about pottery.

My name is Maxine. I specialise in making unique, handmade ceramics at my studio in Oxfordshire.

Using stoneware clay, I create each piece individually using different methods; slab building, sculpting and wheel-throwing.

My inspiration comes from the beauty of the natural world.
The textures and shapes it provides echo most of my work.

Being creative has meant that I have experimented with many crafts over time. After my first encounter with clay, however, I was transfixed. I love how raw clay has the potential to become almost anything you desire within your hands!

My journey with clay continues, and my love for creating ceramics continues to grow.

I create.

I enjoy making functional objects with a twist. Whether you’re looking for a quirky piece to cherish for your home, a unique mug or an unusual item of jewellery, you'll find them all here! My ceramics also make the perfect gift for someone special, whatever the occasion. Browse my online shop to see the collections.

Inspiration.

My inspiration comes from the forms and textures of nature, specifically British woodlands. Having lived at the foot of the Chiltern Hills for most of my life, I often aim to replicate the beauty of trees and the complexity of leaf patterns in my pieces.

The wonders of our coastline also inspire me greatly. The shapes and patterns created by the ocean are a constant source of inspiration.

I am in awe of the magnificence of the ocean, and the many faces it presents. Specifically, I love to sculpt octopuses. These magical and intelligent creatures are a great inspiration to me, a reflection of the mystery and secrets lying beneath the waves.
